Local Chambers of Commerce for DD11 3SP. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. The smoked fish was great. A hotel bed was available with a pub and a great breakfast. The scenery was good and if you wanted to go out to Bell Rock they have tour-boats to take you there. There is the very interesting Signal Building Museum for lighthouse buffs. The weather is like the Sunny South. Then there are "deals" at first and second hand stores. Pack your bags Mable, you're going to Arbroath.

Great place to visit.

Hospitalfield Arts

Hospitalfield Rd, Arbroath DD11 2NH, UK – 01241 656124

Hospitalfield is a an astonishing location just outside Arbroath in Scotland, its dedicated to contemporary art and ideas, and prides itself on being a place to work, study, learn, visit and enjoy. It's a beautiful Arts and Crafts inspired house, including a magnificent Picture Gallery, one of Scotland’s most important Victorian rooms housing the Allan-Frasers’ collection. In 1902 Hospitalfield opened as a residential art school and became an important place of study, with a strong relationship to the four main art schools in Scotland. Now, its an astonishing trace of almost 150 years of artists ambitions, wealth, collecting, history, teaching and learning. It's a great place to visit.

St Vigeans Sculptured Stones

Kirkstyle, St Vigeans DD11 4RB, UK – 01241 433739

Before the Romans, Gaels, Vikings, Normans, or Saxons left their marks on Scotland, the Picts dominated the north. With rare exception, they left behind little historical record, but the archeological record includes a rich collection of artifacts, most notably their highly-illustrative carved stones. Today, the interpretation of the iconography used in these stones remains speculative, although many of the carvings represent obvious subjects: people, animals (real and mythological), tools, and (after the introduction of Christianity) both recognizable Biblical stories and (of course) crosses. Eventually, the Picts would merge with the Gaels, and as a result Pictish carvings would be influenced by the Celtic style of Insular art (e.g., Celtic Knotwork). This is exclusive to (and arguably inseparable from) Christian influenced carvings. While we were in Scotland, we made a point of visiting a number of churches that had original collections of Pictish art, as well as two (excellent) museums: Meigle Sculptured Stone Museum and (by appointment) St Vigeans Sculptured Stones Museum. Between the two, I preferred St. Vigeans, although both offer excellent collections of carved stones that are worth visiting if you are interested in Pictish art. You will want to call ahead to schedule an appointment to see the stones. The museum is not regularly staffed, and will not be open if you show up unannounced. You can also schedule appointments from nearby Arbroath Abbey, although don't rely on being able to gain access on short notice. Despite the inconvenience of needing to schedule your visit, the benefit of this is that you'll likely have the museum to yourself, and the staff member that lets you in will gladly provide additional information on the stones. In our case, the staff member was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and her passion, knowledge, and insight are part of why we enjoyed St. Vigeans even more than Meigle. In addition to the individual attention and unparalleled collection, the other differentiator of St. Vigeans is the presentation. The stones are nicely mounted a lit, making it easier to appreciate the detail of the stones. The only downside of the venue is that it is small, although with individual access that ought not pose a problem. (As a result, they previously prohibited photography, although they recently changed this policy).

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

Local Restaurants & Places to Eat around Arbroath

Webmor's Restaurant

66 High St, Arbroath DD11 1AW, UK – 01241 873987

Lovely tasting food. Served very hot. Best fish and chips I have EVER had. The haddock is cut into portions, coated in a beautiful golden tasty batter. The chips were coated in something tasty too? I usually reach for vinegar and tomato sauce - it wasn't on the table - but didn't need it. I just dabbed them in the pureed pea sauce or the tartare sauce. Delicious. The only thing that lets it down is the place itself is very chilly! (Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.) Will definitely go back.....if you promise to turn up the heating?

Excellent service, good food and dessert even better and nice decor.

Opurbo Bangladeshi Restaurant

31-33 West Port, Arbroath DD11 1RF, UK – 01241 430422

Best curry in Angus , owner quite a character and knows her food. If in doubt follow her suggestions 👍🏼

We were here for dinner on a Saturday night. Quite a small place; maybe only 8 tables or so? (recommend booking) The night we were there they appeared to be short staffed; the owner was the only person waiting the tables. As we were there with kids the owner said to the room/other diners that we would be getting served first to cater for the kids! No necessary but appreciated nonetheless. The food itself was excellent. No two ways about it. Obviously home cooked to order. None of the generic brown, red, yellow sauces you see in many other Indians. Also, it was quite "light": it didn't leave you with the heavy, bloated feeling you can sometimes have after a curry. Half and double portion requests were handled seamlessly. I can thoroughly recommend Opurbo and if I'm back in Arbroath I'd certainly go again.

The Old Boatyard Restaurant

Fishmarket Quay, Arbroath DD11 1PS, UK – 01241 879995

We had a lovely meal tonight on my birthday. Lobster bisque was gorgeous. Chicken supreme was wonderful with a gorgeous sauce. Sticky toffee pudding wasn't the best I have had but was tasty. All in all a lovely meal. This was the first time we had been to this restaurant and will definitely be back. Nice friendly and attentive waitresses. It was nice to sit at the window and watch sea.The only thing that I didn't like was the loud music..Why?

Good service, nice atmosphere, relaxed, food is ok but expected better considering the interior decor. A few nice touches, salted fries and vinaigrette salad, just missing that extra taste to the main dish.
